My biometric numbers have fallen off a bit lately and I attribute most of that to poor food choices while traveling for 4 consecutive weeks and slacking off at the box. Nothing drastic… just enough to motivate me to get moving again. Body fat is back up around 20.5% and I’ve gained a few pounds. I’m going to go back to the original block prescription for a while (reducing the fat blocks) until I get back around 16-17% BF.
On the positive side, the last few wod’s have been outstanding and I really loved them. I’m feeling really motivated right now. Yesterday, for instance, I easily could have pushed through 4 rounds of Monsoor’s Big Dawg version and today I’m mad at myself for stopping at 3 rounds as scaled. Today should be a rest day but I feel great so I’m going to hit the box after work. I’m pretty confident that the lunges will causes me to regret this decision tomorrow.
One other thing to note. I finally made it to the doctor to figure out why I’ve been coughing relentlessly after wod’s and turns out it is exercise-induced asthma. It’s been really bad lately – the worst episode following Jackie on 5/26 when I coughed continuously for 2 hours after I called time. Other notably awful episodes were back when it was cold outside and we ran sprints. The doctor lady is fairly certain that allergies are playing a huge part in this so she put me on singulair and an inhaler.
I’ve read a lot about this on the CF blogs lately and there seems to be a lot of discussion about dairy, eggs and wheat specifically (negatively) affecting EIA. I had issues with this when I ran track in middle/high school and I haven’t really pushed myself to the level of intesity that CrossFit does since that time – which is why it didn’t really surface until now I guess. So my question to any of the coaches or anyone else who might be reading this: what’s the deal with the aforementioned foods? Loren Cordain (www.thepaleodiet.com) has some information regarding EIA and sodium/magnesium levels – but most of his stuff talks more about the chemical properties than I care to know. I’m open to ideas, comments, and suggestions…
